Decorative combs have been made and used for over five millennia, by cultures all across the world. These ubiquitous objects of use and adornment, passed down the generations, represent a universal thread of human desire. Ancient objects and fragments evoke a dizzying sense of material connection to the past and to our common humanity.

In 2019, this piece reached the finals of a competition on the theme of identity and self-expression, co-organised by Handmade in Britain and the Ashmolean museum, Oxford. It was exhibited at the Ashmolean museum and at Handmade Oxford.
